In any discipline, there is a clear but hard-to-define gulf between the merely proficient, and the true master. Proficiency can be acquired in a year or two; Mastery is the work of a lifetime.
There is certainly no way to capture mastery of any discipline in any single chapter; It comes from within, from years of practice and contemplation and caring intensely about the quality of the result.
Yet, it would be remiss to pass over the subject in complete silence.
So, in lieu of a magical mastery-in-30-minutes recipe, I here provide some personal thoughts and a grabbag of tricks.
